How To Clean Earrings Without Destroying Them

Earrings can accumulate all sorts of dirt, like grease, oils, sweat, dust, and many other products that might make them lose their shine. This accumulated dirt can also irritate your skin and increase the risk of infection. If you have irritation in your ear lobes or redness of the skin where your earrings lie, you might be having infection caused by dirt. If you notice that your earrings are not shining like they used to, you can use different methods to clean and make them look new. The following are the ways to clean different types of earrings:

Diamond Earrings

Diamonds are resilient, and you should be cautious when cleaning them to avoid discoloration. In many
cases, mild soap will clean the grime and any other dirt out without destroying the earrings. First, soak the earrings in mild soap and water for 30 minutes to loosen the dirt.
Use a soft brush to gently brush off and remove any dirt stuck on the earrings and the diamonds.
Rinse the earrings with clean water and wipe them out with a soft lint-free cloth or let them air dry.
Remember to plug the sink if you are cleaning over a sink to avoid losing them down the drain.

Silver Earrings

Silver earrings can discolor because of oxidation even when not worn for a while. To clean silver earrings. you need tin foil, baking soda, a soft brush, and boiling water. First, line a glass bowl with the foil. Coat all the parts of the earrings with a generous amount of baking soda. Pour boiling water over the earrings, and make sure you create a paste from the baking soda and the water. Gently scrub the earrings with a soft brush to loosen dirt and oxides Repeat the process until the earrings are clean and sparkling like new, and then rinse with clean hot water and wipe out with a soft cotton cloth.

Gold Earrings

The process of cleaning gold earrings is like cleaning diamond earrings. Mild soap and water will clean
out the dirt stuck on the earrings without damaging the jewelry. Use the same process, soak the earrings
for 30 minutes in soap and water and then gently clean with a soft toothbrush.

Pearl Earrings

Pearls are fragile, and you need to be very gentle when cleaning them at home. A simple soft cotton
cloth can clean out any traces of dirt or products on the earrings. If the dirt is stuck on the pearls, you can soak the cloth in some water and gently wipe the pearls clean. No matter the type of earrings you have, you need to ensure that they are clean and safe to wear all day. Apart from cleaning the earrings, you should also clean and disinfect the storage so that they remain germ-free.

If you are not sure about how to go about cleaning your earrings at home, you should consider taking them to your local jeweler. He will clean them without getting the stones to losen and destroy your
favorite pair of earrings.
